2011 Nebraska Cornhuskers Football

Michigan Takes Nebraska Behind The Woodshed, 45-17

November 19, 2011 - Nebraska made its first visit to the Big House and Ann Arbor, Michigan since 1962, for a division matchup with the Michigan Wolverines. Before the biggest crowd to ever see Nebraska play, 113,718, Nebraska stunk it up and lost 17-45.

Michigan went up 10-0 before Nebraska tied it up early in the second quarter. Michigan would add another touchdown to go up 10-17 at the half.

The Huskers opened the second half receiving the kickoff and Kenny Bell promptly fumbled the ball. The Huskers self-destructed on a few other plays in the second half as well, including a blocked punt, allowing a fake field goal to go for a first down, a 'roughing' the kicker call (not that bad), and two fumbles lost in the fourth quarter.

The score was 10-31 before Nebraska drove down and on an interesting play, Martinez handed off to Burkhead, who ran about ten yards to his right and then pitched to Ameer Abdullah who scored the TD. After the bad call on the punt kept the drive alive, UMich drove down the field and Odoms caught a nice pass from Robinson to go up 10-38 and a few minutes later Toussaint ran up the middle for 31 yards and put the game away for good.

Denard Robinson was very good for Michigan, 11-18 179 yards passing, with 2 TDs passing and rushing for 2 more. Nebraska was not good, defensively, but Lavonte David did register double-digit tackles. Michigan defense kept Nebraska from completing a third down conversion until 1:42 left in the third quarter, having not converted on the previous seven tries. NU ended up 3-13 on third down. Ugh.

With the loss to Michigan, Michigan State wins the Legends Division, and out go the Huskers hopes of playing in the inaugural Big Ten Championship game, as well as a possible BCS at-large bid. Currently 4-3 in Big Ten play and 8-3 overall, it looks like it will be the a trip to the Gator, Outback, Fiesta and Capital One Bowls for Big Red.

Next up for Nebraska is the 'rival' game at home aginst the Iowa Hawkeyes. The game is on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, nationally televised on ABC and game time is 11am Central. Internet audio as always will be available at Huskers.com. and the college feed of UNL station KRNU online and in Lincoln on 90.3 FM.
